How to add a text watermark to a PDF

Mark a draft, review copy, or internal document with text such as “DRAFT” or “CONFIDENTIAL.” pdPDF places the same text watermark on every page and downloads a separate PDF.

Open the Watermark PDF tool

Steps

  1. Open Watermark PDF and choose a PDF from your device.
  2. Replace the default “CONFIDENTIAL” in the Watermark Text box with your own short text. Common Latin letters and numbers work best with the current font.
  3. Move the Opacity slider. A lower value makes the mark lighter; a higher value makes it more visible over the page content.
  4. Click “Watermark PDF.” Open the downloaded file, whose name starts with watermarked_, and inspect every page before sharing it.

What this tool currently does

The tool draws purple text at an angle on each page. Its font size, color, angle, and placement are fixed; the text and opacity are the controls you can change. It does not add an image logo, offer different watermarks by page, or provide a text preview before downloading. Check the result especially when the document has dense text, charts, or unusually sized pages.

Important: A watermark is a visible label, not access control or encryption. It does not prevent someone from copying or changing a PDF. Do not use it as the only safeguard for confidential information.

Privacy and document checks

The watermark operation reads the selected PDF and writes a new one in your browser memory; it does not send the document content to a pdPDF conversion server. The website still loads its normal assets over the internet. Your original file stays on your device. If the PDF contains a digital signature, adding a watermark creates a changed copy, so check signature validity and other advanced features before relying on the result.

Common questions

Can I watermark only the first page?

No. This tool marks every page. To mark just a few pages, extract those pages first; if needed, combine the resulting PDFs afterward with the merge guide.

Can I add a logo or photograph?

Not with the current Watermark PDF tool. It supports text watermarks only.

Why might my text fail to appear?

The current font has limited character support. If non-Latin characters cause an error or appear incorrectly, try simple Latin text. Always inspect the downloaded PDF.
