How to extract specific pages from a PDF

Need only a few pages from a larger document? Select their page numbers and download one new PDF containing those pages, in the order you entered them.

Open the Extract Pages tool

Steps

  1. Open the Extract Pages tool and choose your PDF file.
  2. In “Pages to Extract,” enter the page numbers separated by commas. For example, 2, 5, 8 selects pages 2, 5, and 8. Page numbers start at 1.
  3. Click “Extract Pages.” Your browser downloads a new PDF containing the selected pages.
  4. Open the downloaded file and confirm its pages before sharing or deleting the original.

Current input format: Enter individual numbers separated by commas. The tool does not currently expand a range such as 2-5; use 2, 3, 4, 5 instead.

What happens to the original?

The tool reads the PDF in your browser and creates a separate output file. It does not edit the original file. The page extraction code uses the PDF data in browser memory and does not send the document to a pdPDF conversion server. The page itself still loads normal website assets over the internet.

When to extract pages instead of split or organize

Use extraction when you need one new PDF containing a chosen subset, such as pages 2 and 5 of a report. Use the Organize PDF tool when you need to reorder or remove pages across the whole document. If you need one separate output file for every page, this extraction tool does not currently do that in a single action.

Common questions

Can I choose pages out of order?

Yes. The output uses the order of the numbers you enter. Check the downloaded PDF to make sure it is the sequence you wanted.

What if a page number does not exist?

The tool ignores numbers outside the document’s page count. If no valid page number remains, it shows an error instead of creating an output file.

Can it read a password-protected PDF?

Some encrypted PDFs may fail to load. Work from an authorized, unprotected copy; this guide does not describe bypassing document access controls.
